Abstract: Canada's new forced-labour law, Bill S-211, has received criticism for being toothless and potentially delaying further action against slave labor. The law requires businesses to file annual reports on their efforts to address forced labor in their supply chains, but it does not impose more stringent due diligence requirements like some other countries. However, the law does impose serious obligations on businesses, particularly large and influential ones, and it aligns with other obligations and developments such as foreign claimants pursuing Canadian corporations for human rights violations and the prohibition on importing goods produced with forced or child labor.
