Abstract: The article offers the author's insights on the use of algorithms by several music streaming services to produce playlists including Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify. Topics discussed include the algorithms use statistical techniques to analyze listener data and make an educated guess, but cannot account preferences of people for music, the idea behind collection data from other users is called collaborative filtering, and the limitation of automated recommendation algorithms.
