| Abstract: | This paper describes the history, mission, and culture of the Space Shuttle Onboard Software (OBS) project, which has received world-wide recognition for its high quality software, and the current direction towards the automation of its software development process. This process automation has been motivated by many factors, most of which are customer driven.
