| Abstract: | A reversible resistive gas sensor was developed for detecting low amount of carbon monoxide (<35 ppm) in air rapidly at room temperature using Cu doped cryptomelane octahedral molecular sieves (Cu-OMS-2) nanofibers. Sensor showed the quick response of 18% and 33% in 55 s when exposed to 10 ppm and 100 ppm of CO gas, respectively and recovered to the original value in ∼42 s after the removal of CO source. No heating was required either for sensing or recovery. The sensor film displayed good repeatability for multiple exposures of CO at room temperature. The nanofibers were developed using a simple method and showed high selectivity for CO. Adsorption of CO at the Cu-O-Mn site and resonance between Cu 2+ and Mn 4+ is proposed to be responsible for high sensitivity and selectivity of Cu-OMS-2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
