The author discusses how experiences within his industry as a participant in the Google Visiting Faculty program influenced his academic research and teaching. Topics include the differences between and motivation for writing code in academia and industry, the need for research to address real-world problems faced by industry and the complex production environments and constraints systems operate in, and collaboration between academics and industry to help determine which problems to work on. |
