Abstract: Abstract A series of dinuclear complexes having general formula, [M 1 (NO 3)(valpn)M 2 (NO 3) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·H 2 O where M 1 = Cu(1 – 6) and M 2 = La(1), Nd(2), Sm(3), Gd(4), Tb(5) and Er(6), have been synthesized from the bifunctional ligand (H 2 valpn = 2,2'-{propane-1,3-diylbis[nitrilo(E)methylylidene]}bis(6-methoxyphenol)). The X-ray structure for (2), bis(μ 2 -2,2'-(Propane-1,3-diylbis(nitrilomethylylidene))bis(6-methoxyphenolato)-(nitrate)-bis(nitrato)-diaqua-copper(II)-neodymium(III)hydrate, completely described the coordination behavior around each metal center along with the geometric shape of the compound. The magnetization of the synthesized bimetallic complexes were assessed by vibrating sample magnetometry, particularly, the temperature dependence magnetic susceptibility for CuIILaIII (1), CuIINdIII (2), CuIISmIII (3), CuIIGdIII (4), CuIITbIII (5) and CuIIErIII (6) systems were evaluated and the interaction strength between the Cu and the respective lanthanide ion, present in these complexes, were estimated. Graphical abstract Image 1 Highlights • Synthesis of bimetallics belonging to d-f metals derived from Schiff base ligand. • Characterized by electroanalytical and X-ray diffraction techniques. • X-ray structure described the coordination behavior around each metal center. • Magnetization of the bimetallic complexes was measured by VSM. • Magnet interaction strength between copper and lanthanides in complexes was studied.
