Abstract: We have observed a sharp anomaly near 40 K in the zero field cooled (ZFC) dc magnetization data along with a very large thermomagnetic irreversibility (TMI) in Nd 5 Ge 2 Si. The ac susceptibility data shows a frequency dependent cusp near the same temperature and dynamic scaling behavior in this compound. We also report the observation of multiple field induced irreversible ultra-sharp metamagnetic jumps in the magnetization isotherms at low temperatures, associated to the field induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) to ferromagnetic (FM) transition. These metamagnetic transitions persist up to near 40 K but lose the sharpness with temperature. The temperature variation of △ S M curve has a positive to negative crossover near 35 K along with a positive peak near 32 K and negative peaks near 49 and 60 K respectively. These features indicate the presence of spin glass state below the characteristic freezing temperature T SG ≈ 40 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
