| Abstract: | This chapter discusses the efficient implementation of SDL descriptions. It is the first study that covers the topic in such a comprehensive way and in such detail. The chapter covers the implementation of the extended finite state machines described by SDL and the implementation of the support functions for process management, process communication and buffer management, interfacing with the environment, and timer management. The chapter describes how optimization techniques, known from the manual implementation of communicating systems - as described in chapter 3 - can be applied to the automatic code generation from SDL. In addition, measures to deal with non-ideal features and limitations of the underlying system, which are not present in SDL, are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
