Abstract: In this article the authors how BYOA (Bring Your Own Algorithm) is changing the patient-clinician relationship and the nature of expert work in healthcare. It is described how situations in which patients have direct access to algorithmic advice are becoming commonplace as these algorithms and home devices help to manage conditions like Type 1 diabetes. Black box technologies are described as are insights on how patient clinician-information-interpretation relationships can be facilitated into the future.
