Abstract: A circular birefringent chiral atomic medium is used for the modification of left and right circularly polarized (LCP/RCP) beams of light. Maximum group velocities of the LCP/RCP modes are reported to v g (±) = ± c / 40000 and delays/advance time are reported to τ d (±) = ± 0.1 μs in the medium. The LCP/RCP beams show strong distortion behavior with the phases of control fields and superpositions states coefficients. The total 100% input intensity is distributed in LCP/RCP beams. The output intensity of the LCP beam is 20 % and that of the RCP beam is also 20% while the remaining 60% intensity is lost in the medium due to phase and amplitude distortions of the LCP/RCP beams at 10 cm length of the medium. These results may show potential applications in photo cells devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
