Title: How Do Java Mutation Tools Differ? A framework for aiding future Java mutation tool comparisons.
Authors: AMALFITANO, DOMENICO1, PAIVA, ANA C. R.2, INQUEL, ALEXIS3, PINTO, LUÍS4, FASOLINO, ANNA RITA5, JUST, RENÉ6
Source: Communications of the ACM. Dec2022, Vol. 65 Issue 12, p74-89. 16p. 3 Color Photographs, 3 Diagrams, 8 Charts.
Subjects: Java programming language, Mutation testing of computer software, Debugging, Source code, Command-line interfaces
Abstract: This article presents a system for evaluating Java mutation tools, tools which enable test efficacy and debugging in computer software. The authors compare eight Java mutation tools and provide a framework that can be applied to both current and future mutation tools. The framework provided incorporates five areas of analysis- tool version, deployment, mutation process, user-centric features and mutation operators.
