| Abstract: | We introduce in this paper a vibration-testing system designed to identify the natural frequencies of structures. The system consists of two devices: the first device is used to excite the test beams with acoustic pressure, while the second device is used to acquire, process, and store the vibration signals. The excitation is made with a signal generated using a computer program. After it is generated, the signal is sent to a loudspeaker via a computer sound board and an amplifier. The excitation force is sinusoidal and has a frequency in the audio domain. With this device, it is possible to set the generated frequency near one of the natural frequencies of the beam, so that the resonance is achieved for the given vibration mode. The excitation signal has good frequency and amplitude stability. The response signal is measured with the second device, and the frequency is estimated using an original method. It is possible to apply this procedure for each vibration mode that has the frequency in the domain defined by the speaker and the accelerometer. The test procedure is presented in detail in this paper. It is verified by applying it to a cantilever beam with a constant cross-section, for which we also calculated the natural frequencies. A good correlation between the theoretical and the measured frequency resulted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
