Abstract: This article discusses various issues related to the azaacepentalenide anion. Recently, the achievement of azafullerenes on a macroscopic scale has opened up a new dimension in carbon cage research. However, no convex aromatic polycycle including nitrogen in its framework appears to have yet been described. The article authors have for some time been studying a class of rigid, hemispherical tricycles of the azatriquinane family and have recently completed the synthesis of 10-azatriquinacene. The authors set sights on the analogous azaacepentalenide anion, and here, in this article, they describe the preparation of both azaacepentalenide anion and its perchloro derivative.
