Abstract: This article presents information on how algorithms can be utilized to properly disperse natural disaster aid from governments and relief organizations. Topics include the need for automation and data analysis in order to assist in delivering aid in a timely and appropriate manner, how to prevent fraud in relief aid, and also how algorithms can make initial assessments for qualification of need in disaster situations. Organizations highlighted in the article include the American Red Cross, GiveDirectly, and the United Kingdom’s Department for Work & Pensions.
