| Abstract: | Explosive bonded Ti/steel plates were processed by either multi-pass rolling or single-pass large strain rolling. The microstructure, texture, interface, and mechanical properties of the rolled plates were investigated. Results show that the single-pass large strain rolling process refined the Ti grains through dynamic recrystallization and refined the steel grains in both the decarburized and no-decarburized layers because of the higher reduction ratio. The single-pass large strain rolling process generated more γ-fiber texture in the Ti layer because the larger rolling reduction in one pass induces more shear deformation, while its fraction of {001} <310> texture in the steel layer decreased because this process does not require reheating steps. The Ti/steel interfacial compounds layer of the single-pass large strain rolling sample was thinner and intact, providing improved tensile shear strength. Finer grain size and brittle rupture of the decarburized layer in the sample account for its reduced uniform elongation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
