Abstract: This article presents information on multimedia audio systems. Multimedia audio is an emerging and evolving topic that encompasses techniques of both analog and digital signal processing, speech, music, and computer systems architecture. This article will begin by describing the components of a multimedia audio system. This will be followed by an overview of the concepts of digital sampling and quantization, and the filtering issues that arise when dealing with audio data at different sampling rates. Computer architectures for moving audio streams within systems are then described.
