Abstract: Instron, a company based in Massachusetts, has released a Precision Specimen Loader that improves accuracy, safety, and efficiency when conducting mechanical testing on delicate foil specimens and thin films. The device consists of a width block, linear rail, and alignment clip, and it reduces fatigue and minimizes safety risks for operators. The Precision Specimen Loader is compatible with certain grips and complies with applicable standards. In other news, Ipsen has shipped a vacuum furnace to Tratamientos Termicos Avanzados in Mexico, and EAG Laboratories has announced the availability of Plasma FIB services. Additionally, researchers at the University of Maryland have developed a technology to prevent damage in lithium batteries, and researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have found a way to stabilize nanoscale precipitates in alloys. Lastly, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute have developed a deep learning model for objective and automated assessment of grain size in steel, and Stanford researchers have identified the cause of technical challenges in hydrogen-based steel production.
