| Abstract: | The article discusses the concept of plaque burden (PB) in relation to recurrent ischemic stroke. PB is a measure of the progression of arteriosclerosis and is considered to be a better indicator than the general stenosis rate. The study examined the findings from vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (VW-MRI) in patients with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) who experienced recurrent ischemic stroke. The results showed that a higher PB and enhancement ratio were independent predictors of stroke recurrence. The article also discusses the limitations of PB measurement and suggests that further research is needed to determine the association between the total amount of plaque and recurrent ischemic stroke.
