Abstract: • A lead-free perovskite Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 is employed as a photocatalyst. • Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 exhibits a high catalytic activity for visible-light-mediated C3 arylation of quinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones. • Various 3-arylquinoxalin-2(1 H)-one derivatives are obtained with high yields. • The reaction is performed in dimethyl carbonate with oxygen in air as oxidant at room temperature. • The catalytic system can be effectively operated in gram-scale, and the catalyst is stable and recyclable. A facile, practical and attractive approach has been developed for the C3 arylation of quinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones with phenylhydrazines using the lead-free perovskite Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 as heterogeneous photocatalyst. The reaction proceeded smoothly in dimethyl carbonate with oxygen in air as oxidant under light irradiation, furnishing 3-arylquinoxalin-2(1 H)-one derivatives in high yields. The developed recyclable system showed a broad substrate range, good functional group compatibility, mild conditions, photocatalyst recyclability, and gram-scale reactivity.
