Abstract: The basic principles are described that have been applied for automation of the accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS) developed under the original project by the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) as part of the integration project for needs of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences' institutes. The facility is a tandem ion accelerator with a charge-exchange target with particle energies as high as 4 MeV. A distributed control system has been developed to control the facility, which simplifies the upgrade of the system software and hardware. By designing control programs and user interfaces in the LabVIEW environment, it is possible to easy adapt the system and increase the operating efficiency of the facility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
