| Abstract: |
The article focuses on the theoretical and experimental investigation of synchronous surging and pitching of an airfoil, specifically a NACA 0018, at low pre-stall angles of attack. The study employs a combination of theoretical formulations and experimental data to analyze the lift coefficient and the effects of phase differences between surging and pitching. Results indicate that the lift coefficient cannot be accurately predicted by simply superimposing the effects of surging and pitching due to variations in the effective reduced frequency and the influence of bubble bursting on lift generation. The findings highlight the importance of understanding these dynamics for applications in rotorcraft and wind turbine aerodynamics. [Extracted from the article] |
