| Abstract: | This article describes research where the main goal is the development of cationic polymerization systems for olefins that operate in a catalytic manner. Moreover, these chemistries are fine-tuned so that they operate in a green manner but are still conducive for commercialization. Although a portion of this article constitutes a brief review of previously published work further details on those investigations are provided here for the first time in the peer-reviewed literature in addition to new unpublished studies. The reader not specializing in polymers should keep in mind that much of the chemistry described in this document overlaps with small molecule electrophilic transformations (e.g., cracking, alkylation) and thus can be applied to endeavors other than polymerization.
