| Abstract: | • 32.37 % rise in tensile strength achieved using novel hybrid reinforcement strategy in MMCs. • Wear rate reduced by 33.2 % via synergistic effects of ZrB 2 , Ti 3 SiC 2 , RHA, and PCM. • Hybrid MMC shows 30.7 % higher hardness and 30.4 % lower friction coefficient. • First-time integration of PCM–SiO 2 with MAX phase in AA6061 improves tribo-performance. The creation of hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs) has been fueled by the growing demand for lightweight structural materials with enhanced mechanical and tribological properties. This study investigates the influence of multiple hybrid reinforcements nano Rice Husk Ash (RHA), Zirconium Diboride (ZrB 2), Titanium Silicon Carbide (Ti 3 SiC 2 , a MAX phase), and Phase Change Material encapsulated in Silicon Dioxide (PCM–SiO 2) microcapsules on the performance of AA6061 aluminum alloy. The optimized specimen showed a 32.37 % increase in tensile strength, a 30.7 % improvement in hardness, and a 20 % rise in impact strength, along with a 24.69 % reduction in elongation, indicating a reduction in ductility. Furthermore, tribological testing revealed a 33.2 % decrease in wear rate and a 30.4 % reduction in the coefficient of friction. These results, supported by microscopic analyses, confirm the suitability of the developed composites for demanding engineering applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
