Abstract: The article discusses the increasing interest in minimally invasive tumor ablation, particularly thermal ablation (TA) for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and colorectal liver metastases, highlighting its effectiveness compared to traditional surgical methods. A recent large cohort registry study from Germany examined the technical success and complication rates of various TA techniques, revealing that radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA) are the most commonly used methods, while cryoablation (CA) may offer a safer alternative for tumors sized 3–4 cm. The findings suggest that heat-based TA techniques have lower success rates and higher complication rates for larger tumors, prompting a reevaluation of treatment guidelines to potentially include ablative procedures as a primary option for small renal masses.
