| Abstract: | A functional initiator monomer containing lipoic acid ester both with degradable disulphide bond and peroxide bond was designed and synthesised. Here, the precursors are lipoic acid and tert-butyl (isopropylbenzene) hydroperoxide, while dichloromethane (tetrahydrofuran) was used as a solvent and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and N, N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) were used as condensation agents. The structure and purity of lipoic acid ester functional initiator monomer were characterised by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The purity of lipoic acid ester functional initiator monomer prepared is as high as over 90%. The precursor material is low-cost and widely available, and does not require special methods to purify the product, which means it can be directly used in the synthesis of degradable vinyl polymers.
