Abstract: The performance of cylinder liner-piston rings (CL-PR) that worked under harsh conditions significantly affected the reliability and economy of served marine diesel engines. Recently, low sulfur fuel oils (LSFO) have been widely used in marine diesel due to environmental regulations and human health, resulting in corrosion and wear issues of CL-PR components with unclear mechanisms. This study used the actual CL-PR materials to conduct friction-wear tests and corrosion-wear tests under different simulated LSFO environments. Through the characterization parameters, it was found that the wear forms of the CL-PR friction pairs were mainly abrasive wear and adhesive wear under normal conditions, and the mismatched alkaline reserve of cylinder oil also influenced the wear forms of friction pairs. Additionally, the corrosion behaviors significantly promoted the wear of the cylinder liner under different conditions. These findings helped to understand the synthetical wear mechanism of CL-PR in marine diesel burning LSFO and solve the abnormal wear issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
