Electrochemical detection of Fast Green FCF (FGF), a common synthetic food colorant utilized extensively in food and cosmetic industries, has been the focus of considerable interest due to increasing concerns regarding its possible health risks, i.e., its carcinogenicity. Due to its extensive use and relevance to consumer safety, selective and sensitive detection of FGF is very important. To address this requirement, the current study proposes a new electrochemical sensor designed based on aluminium-decorated sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (Al-S-g-C 3 N 4) as the electrode platform. Experimental results showed that the proposed sensor displays outstanding attributes, such as fast response time, high sensitivity, and good selectivity towards FGF. The sensor exhibited a wide linear detection range from 0.002 μM to 3.6 μM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.16 nM, highlighting its ability to detect trace amounts of the dye with accuracy. Furthermore, the sensor exhibited satisfactory selectivity even in the presence of possible interfering compounds and exhibited good reproducibility. These findings confirm the reliability and endurance of the proposed sensing platform. Notably, the affordability and simplicity of the sensor design maximized its utility for real-world applications in food safety monitoring and quality control. Electrochemical detection of Fast Green FGF at Al-S-g-C 3 N 4 @GCE. [Display omitted] • Aluminium-decorated sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (Al-S-g-C 3 N 4) based sensor has been designed. • Sensor exhibited a rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of fast green. • Sensor exhibited good selectivity, reproducibility, and stability in food samples. • The proposed sensing platform is cost-effective and robust.
