| Abstract: | This work presents a new dynamic model designed to analyze and optimise inventory and production systems while considering planned obsolescence. The model incorporates key variables such as inventory levels, obsolescence rates, production rates, and replacement rates to effectively capture the complex dynamics of inventory systems affected by obsolescence. Optimal control methods are utilised to identify the optimal time-dependent paths for production and replacement rates that minimise costs while satisfying demand constraints. A sensitivity analysis is conducted to test the model's robustness and examine how different initial conditions and parameters–like inventory levels, obsolescence rates, and planning horizons–affect system performance and costs. The findings highlight the significant cost impacts of planned obsolescence and suggest strategies for alleviating its effects through adaptive policies. This research contributes to the field of inventory and production management and offers a practical framework for tackling planned obsolescence in industrial settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
