| Abstract: | The article provides information on the IEEE 1394 computer interface standard. The standard provides data transmission at fixed intervals regardless of bus load. The maximum 800-megabits per data rate of the IEEE 1394 allows image data to be transmitted using the same infrastructure as motion-control information. Its deterministic timing via isochronous data transfer is one of the main reasons for selecting IEEE 1394 as control bus for real-time systems. INSET: Defining the Firewire standard. |
