Abstract: A novel approach for constructing stable type-3 fuzzy controllers with the fuzzy Lyapunov method is presented. Originally, Fuzzy Lyapunov was put forward for type-1 fuzzy control stability. Later, the method was extended to the realm of type-2 fuzzy control. In this work, we are now proposing the extension of the approach to type-3 fuzzy control (FC). The main idea is that with the fuzzy Lyapunov approach we are able to build stable type-3 fuzzy controllers for diverse applications. We deal with the inverted pendulum to highlight the potential of the approach. The results highlight the potential of this approach in type-3 FC. The presented ideas could be applied in the future to other more complex plants to validate even further the proposal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
