Abstract: The territory of Bulgaria is located at the northernmost part of the well-known Aegean Extensional area, defined as South Balkan Extensional System. GNSS studies for geodynamic purposes in Bulgaria started by elaboration of two networks in 1996. The first regional GPS network for geodynamic studies was created from 17 points covering the entire country. A second one denser net, covered the territory of SW Bulgaria. First results were obtained and published in 2000 and 2001st. The primary results for the country pointed to velocities of 1-2 mm/yr. The results obtained from the net covering SW Bulgaria were in the order of 1-2 up to 3-4 mm/yr. However, the results had a significant uncertainty. The net covering SW Bulgaria was fully measured during the period 2020-2024, in two full campaigns, and significant new points were added, consisting presently of 50 points. The results show increasing velocities from 1-2 mm/yr in the northern part up to almost 4 mm/yr in the southern part. All point velocities errors are now less than 0.1 mm/yr. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
