Abstract: • The importance of double perovskites (DP) was highlighted. • The various processing methods of DP were reviewed. • The microstructure disputes based on synthesis methods were presented. • The crystal structures of DP's were reviewed in complete way. • The future challenges for DP materials were proposed. Double perovskites (DP) have gained considerable attention due to their distinctive multifunctional crystalline characteristics. The efficiency and stability of traditional double perovskites remain major challenges. Achieving high performance and long-term stability in optoelectronic devices and related applications requires the rational design and precise control of the microstructure in rare-earth perovskites. Despite their potential, comprehensive reviews on novel perovskites and a deep understanding of how crystallographic and microstructural properties influence their behavior remain scarce. This review aims to fill these gaps by presenting recent advancements in inorganic perovskites modified by A/B-site rare-earth substitutions. Specifically, it: (i) integrates crystallographic properties with microstructure, offering an in-depth examination of A 2 B'B"O 6 -type perovskite structures, including their crystallographic characteristics, microcrystalline mechanisms, and morphological designs, with a focus on aspects like grain size; (ii) investigates cutting-edge in-situ synthesis methods and microstructure dynamics assigned to improve the stability of rare-earth perovskites, which is vital for the advancement of materials technologies; and (iii) highlights a broad spectrum of applications where rare-earth perovskites have demonstrated considerable potential, from industrial uses to current innovations. The review also outlines strategic directions for future research to accelerate the transition of these materials toward widespread commercial adoption.
