| Abstract: | The present study analyzes the capabilities of existing software tools for the forensic analysis of the history of the most commonly used browsers based on the Chromium platform (Chrome, Edge, Opera, etc.) to determine their effectiveness. The existing scheme for storing user data and actions in the Edge profile has been formalized and analyzed, and the locations where various settings and files of this browser are stored have been identified. A thorough analysis of the Chromium source code and the actual data stored by the Edge browser was conducted to elucidate the relationships and interconnections between the entities of the SQLite database of the profile and the contents of its main JSON file. The existing software that facilitates forensic analysis of profile data is reviewed. The following are utilities for working with data and dumps, specialized utilities for collecting data from a browser profile from the perspective of one type of information--cache, visit history, cookies--and more complex tools for analyzing browser profiles. The latter category facilitates the collection of a more substantial amount of information. However, in general, the potential exists for significant improvement in the realm of complex software, given its present suboptimal functionality, particularly from the perspective of forensic experts who utilize it.
