| Abstract: | The article focuses on assessing the impact of nitrogen (N) fertilizer on soybean yield and quality using the CROPGRO-Soybean model. It highlights the importance of nitrogen accumulation for high soybean yields and discusses the reliance on both symbiotic nitrogen fixation and soil mineral sources, rather than extensive N fertilizer use. The study evaluates field experiments conducted in various tropical and subtropical regions of Brazil, examining the relationship between N fertilization and soybean production, including growth, oil, and protein concentration. Results indicate that while N fertilization can increase yields, the environmental implications, particularly ammonia volatilization, raise concerns about sustainability and cost-effectiveness in soybean production.
