Abstract: In order to provide high‐quality public mobile communication in speed train, uniform radio wave coverage in the carriage must be realized. Using repeater antenna in train carriage is an effective way to meet the requirement of radio wave coverage, but traditional antenna cannot provide uniform radio wave coverage in a long‐straight space like train carriage. Therefore, in this paper, the radio wave coverage characteristics of two newly proposed beamforming antennas with unilateral and bilateral cosecant distributed radiation patterns in train carriage are investigated by the finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) method, and the results are compared with those of traditional antennas. The effective coverage distance is proposed to analyze the radio wave coverage ability of cosecant beamforming antenna, and the layout of cosecant beamforming antenna in the carriage and its coupling with the roof are analyzed. The corridor scene is also used to actually measure the radio wave coverage of the cosecant beamforming antenna. The results show that the cosecant beamforming antenna can achieve more stable radio wave coverage in the train carriage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
