This study assessed the occupational hazards associated with fish processing in Southwest Nigeria. The survey research design was employed in assessing the occupational hazards associated with fish processing in Southwest Nigeria using a multistage sampling procedure. A total of 551 fish processors were sampled from 29 fishing communities in Southwest Nigeria. Data were obtained using interview schedule administered via the Kobo Collect app, and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics (PPMC). Results revealed that fish processing was dominated by females (89.3%), married persons (95.1%), people with no other occupations (71.9%), and full timers (84.9%). The mean age, household size, and fish processing experience were 46 years, 6 persons, and 12 years, respectively. Most (88.2%) of the respondents utilised the traditional processing techniques. Findings showed that 98.0% of the respondents had experienced injuries due to their involvement in fish processing. Results also revealed that 70.2% worked under good/safe conditions. Furthermore, 91.7% of the fish processors experienced occupational hazard at moderate level. PPMC result revealed a moderately, inverse significant relationship between working condition quality and severity of occupational hazard experienced by the respondents (r = -0.545, p<0.01). The study concluded that fish processing was associated with moderate level of hazards. It recommended that improved/modern fish smoking kilns should be introduced and/or re-introduced to fish processors in order to facilitate the adoption of modern processing methods and techniques.
