Abstract: A bis-Schiff base compound N,N′ -bis((3-bromosalicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine (H 2 L1) and a mono-Schiff base compound 2-bromo-6-(((2-(diethylamino)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenol (HL2) were prepared and characterized by IR, UV–Vis and 1H NMR spectra. Reaction of the Schiff bases with various metal salts afforded five new complexes [MnL1(N 3)(CH 3 OH)]∙CH 3 OH (1), [FeL1(CH 3 OH) 2 ]NO 3 (2), [FeClL1(CH 3 OH)]∙CH 3 OH (3), [ZnL2(μ 2 -ηLi et al. (2018)1:ηLi et al. (2018)1-OAc)] n (4) and [NiL2(NCS)] (5). The complexes have been characterized by IR and UV–Vis spectra. Structures of H 2 L1 and the five complexes were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray determination. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that one hydroxyl H atom of H 2 L1 transferred to N atom. This is in accordance with the 1H NMR and infrared spectra. The metal atoms in complexes 1 , 2 and 3 are in octahedral coordination, in 4 are in trigonal bipyramidal coordination, and in 5 is in square planar coordination. The compounds were assayed against the bacterial strains Bacillus subtillis , Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli , and Pseudomonas aereuguinosa , and gave satisfactory results.
