Abstract: This paper presents the car frontal zone crash analysis and simulation of using ANSYS Explicit Dynamics. Aluminium alloy AA6061 is considered for the outer shell of the car. The impact target considered is a titanium alloy. Total deformation, equivalent elastic strain, equivalent stress, shear stress and shear elastic strain are all assessed. The outcomes of AA6061 were compared with those of SAE J403 grade 1008, a commonly used material for car outer shells, under the same multiple boundary conditions. It was concluded that AA6061 is a much lighter, cost-effective and has a better strength-to-weight ratio than SAE J403 grade 1008. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
