| Abstract: | In order to reduce the harm of waterproofing agent to the environment, the traditional fluorine-containing waterproofing agents were improved, and fluorine-free and efficient waterproofing finishing agents were prepared by emulsion polymerization. Specifically, a styrene-modified polyacrylate waterproof emulsion was crafted by meticulously selecting octadecyl acrylate (SA), butyl methacrylate (BMA), styrene (ST), and hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) as the core polymerization monomers. This innovative emulsion was then meticulously applied to PET fabrics via an impregnation and reaction process, aiming to elevate their water-repellent characteristics. The effects of ST mass fraction, SA ratio, finishing solution concentration, and reaction temperature on the water repellency of the emulsion were discussed, and the optimal experimental conditions were determined by spraying method and testing the static contact angle of the fabric surface. The results revealed that when the ST dosage was 10 wt% of the monomer, the SA proportion was 50%, the concentration of the finishing solution was 50 g/L, and the cloth was handled at 170°C, the waterproof effect of the fabrics was the best, and the waterproof grade reached 100, and the contact angle reached 141.1°. Therefore, the fluorine-free and high-efficiency waterproofing agent developed in this paper holds potential value in improving the waterproof performance of polyester fabrics.
