Abstract: This article addresses the problems associated with the prevalence of counterfeit products. According to the Alliance for Gray Market and Counterfeit Abatement, up to 10 percent of all high-tech products sold worldwide are fake. In effect, manufacturers lose billions of dollars annually in sales. Among the top items seized by customs agents from counterfeiters are consumer electronics, cellphone batteries and computer hardware. What is also alarming is that consumers generally are incapable of distinguishing a product that is fake. INSET: Countering the Counterfeiters.
