Abstract: This article presents the results of chemical element determination in environmental samples collected at a potential nuclear power plant construction site in the Jizzakh region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. A method for instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was developed and optimized for soil and vegetation samples, as well as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for water sample analysis. It has been shown that the use of the INAA method allows determination of up to 32 elements in soil samples with detection limits from 8% to n×10⁻⁷ %, for plant samples, the INAA method provides the ability to determine 30 elements with a sensitivity from 2% to n×10⁻6% with a relative error of 1–20%. Analysis of water samples by the ICP-MS method enables the quantitative determination of up to 62 trace elements in a wide concentration range from 0.2% to n×10⁻9%. The obtained data and developed methods can be used for comprehensive environmental monitoring of the area adjacent to the nuclear power plant construction site. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
