Abstract: To address the issues of uneven brightness, noise interference, and stripe discontinuities in laser stripe images, this paper proposes an adaptive binarization method based on gray level coefficients for precise extraction of sub-pixel laser stripe centerlines. The method first dynamically calculates adaptive thresholds by combining the maximum and mean gray levels of each column, thereby achieving effective separation of weak laser stripes from the background in low-light regions. Subsequently, morphological processing is introduced to enhance stripe edge quality, and a thinning algorithm is applied to extract the skeleton structure. On this basis, a sub-pixel secondary localization method is employed to extract the sub-pixel centerline. Finally, bicubic interpolation and smoothing spline functions are utilized to accomplish sub-pixel coordinate localization and centerline reconstruction. Experimental results on diverse stripe geometries and exposure settings, together with quantitative evaluations on synthetic datasets and gauge-block measurements, indicate that the proposed method is stable and accurate under the tested conditions relevant to industrial structured-light inspection. The method achieves competitive accuracy and real-time performance for the target application scenarios of this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
