| Abstract: |
Dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs) are a cost-effective and promising alternative to conventional silicon solar cells. Natural Dye Sensitised Solar Cell (NDSSC) mimics natural photosynthesis in plants that harvest solar energy. In this study, we investigated green dye extracted from Tinospora cordifolia (TC) leaves (both fresh and dried). The extracted dye was characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy, TLC, FTIR, and Cyclic voltammetry to evaluate its electrochemical, photochemical, and chemical properties. Further, the dye's stability was assessed under varying conditions. TC dye was loaded into indigenously fabricated DSSCs, yielding a maximum efficiency of 0.521%, with key cell parameters including open circuit voltage (V oc) 0.67 V, a short circuit current density (J sc) 1.55 mA/cm2, and fill factor (FF) 49.50%. This study highlights the potential of TC as a sustainable, eco-friendly future DSSC application, contributing to advancing a green approach to biosensitied solar energy harvesting. [Display omitted] • NDSSCs mimic natural photosynthesis in plants that harvest solar energy. • Tinospora cordifolia based dye has good potential as a photosensitizer in DSSCs. • Cell parameters are quite comparable with the commercial N 3 dye utilised in DSSCs. • Fresh leaves based DSSC is performing better than the DTC. • This type of cell can be the green approach towards harvesting nature's green gold.
