Abstract: Based on observations from 17 nearly full-depth moorings along 143°E lasting more than one year, this study quantifies energy fluxes of internal tides (ITs) and near-inertial waves (NIWs) between 0–22°N in the northwest Pacific. Energy fluxes of diurnal ITs are directed predominantly southeastward, with intensified magnitudes between 10–17°N. Their magnitudes range from 0.3–1.0 kW m−1 and peak at 14°N, likely due to the converging tidal beams from Luzon Strait and Talaud-Halmahera Passage. Energy fluxes of semi-diurnal ITs exhibit a complex propagation pattern: westward between 0–20°N, northeastward between 20–21°N, and southeastward between 21–22°N, with magnitudes of 0.7–4.0 kW m−1. Intensified energy fluxes are observed in the Mariana Arc region, where a maximum of 4.0 kW m−1 is estimated. In the southern Mariana Arc (14–20°N), the resonance effect of the west Mariana Ridge and Mariana Ridge amplifies the westward energy fluxes. In the northern Mariana Arc (20–22°N), the interference of opposing tidal beams from the two ridges contributes to northeastward and southeastward energy fluxes. Energy fluxes of NIWs are directed overwhelmingly equatorward and gradually decrease toward the equator. Their magnitudes range from 0.05–0.2 kW m−1, with enhanced values (0.1–0.2 kW m−1) north of 12°N, likely associated with the meridional asymmetry of typhoon-related near-inertial wind energy input. Temporally, energy fluxes of diurnal ITs exhibit semi-annual and spring-neap cycles, while semi-diurnal ITs exhibit a distinct spring-neap cycle. Energy fluxes of NIWs display a seasonal variation, peaking in autumn due to frequent typhoon passages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
