Abstract: Sintering furnaces generally exhibit significant delay times and inertia, and their set temperature profiles vary significantly depending on the type of product being processed, resulting in extremely nonlinear and time‐varying characteristics. Establishing an accurate control system for these furnaces is challenging. This paper analyzes the dynamic characteristics of a sintering furnace for heat‐treating Polytetrafluoride ethylene (PTFE) packings, which are widely used in the chemical and mechanical industries. Based on this analysis, a fuzzy PID control system for reasonable operation is established. When implemented in the process, this system reduces the maximum temperature control error from ±8 to ±2°C.
