| Abstract: | High-speed active magnetic bearings (AMBs) in flywheel energy storage systems (FESSs) are susceptible to performance degradation and reduced control consistency under sudden load variations and parameter drift. To address this issue, this study proposes a performance-preserving control strategy based on dynamic gain shaping (DGS). By designing state-dependent, time-varying gains, the proposed method dynamically shapes the system's equivalent stiffness and damping, thereby compensating for model mismatch and external disturbances within a unified control framework. An AMB-FESS system is used as a case study, and comparative simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed DGS method against a benchmark ACAC+RLS control scheme under abrupt load disturbances and parameter mismatch conditions. The results demonstrate that DGS achieves significantly improved peak response characteristics and faster convergence compared to ACAC+RLS. Moreover, it maintains nearly consistent performance over a wide range of parameter variations while requiring lower control energy. These results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed approach for robust AMB control and demonstrate its strong potential for practical engineering applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
