| Abstract: | This article provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific contributions of Professor Stefan Sokolowski, focusing on his advances in the microscopic theory of inhomogeneous fluids. His research spanned statistical mechanics of fluids, adsorption, soft matter, and liquid state theory, with particular emphasis on fluid–solid interfaces, phase behavior, and confinement effects. Key areas include the development of microscopic adsorption models, associating fluids with directional interactions, fluids in disordered porous media using replica Ornstein–Zernike (ROZ) theory, ionic fluids and electric double layers, surface phase transitions, polymer-modified surfaces, wetting phenomena, and anisotropic colloids such as Janus and hairy particles.
