Abstract: Purpose: Recent research and various disasters, disruptions and crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have underscored the importance of resilience for business firms in today's dynamic environment. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies that identify and examine readiness factors to effectively cope with such situations, particularly in the context of the hospitality sector. This study aims to investigate readiness factors for boosting the performance and resilience of the hotel industry after a crisis like COVID-19. Design/methodology/approach: Using total interpretive structural modelling (TISM) and cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC), this research identifies the readiness factors to interpret the interrelationship of preparedness factors for improving the performance of the hotel industry. Findings: About 18 readiness factors are identified from the extensive literature review and interview with the practitioners from the hotel industry. Interrelationships among readiness factors are identified. Originality/value: About 18 readiness factors and their importance and interrelationships in the hotel industry are identified. Leadership commitment and multitasking are key driving factors to improve performance after a disaster. The developed readiness framework would be useful to the senior managers to prepare their firms, particularly hotels, to enhance their business performance after certain disaster or crisis.
