Abstract: The article features the confocal microscope systems, developed by Nikon Inc. It consists of a confocal microscope interfaced to an image analyzer to allow quantitative measurements of surface topography in both lateral and vertical dimensions. Moreover, it is a powerful measuring technology for complex systems or components that needs a high degree of precision manufacturing and inspection. The advantage of the system is that it simultaneously address the development of ever smaller components. Steps on how to measure these small components are presented.
