| Abstract: |
A unique design for a reciprocating compressor with a flexible piston is proposed and examined, in which the end surface is made of an elastomeric element and capable of deflecting inward. This design, along with eliminating the linear dead volume, further increases the efficiency by means of the volume created by the deformed elastomeric element. The model for calculating the piston compressor's working process is refined taking into account an increase in the working chamber volume. With the assumed maximum deflection of the elastomeric element (20% of the piston diameter), the efficiency increases by up to 16% at almost unchanged compressor working temperatures.
